About Me
My name is Tammi Keane
I chose the name KeaneK9 for my company because my last name is Keane. Original, I know! It doesn’t stop there though, I wanted a name that would depict my eagerness around working with dogs and a dog’s eagerness with, well, everything. A keen canine, if you will.
Like most, my passion for dogs —and all other animals— began at a young age. I was drawn to them, and I like to think they felt the same.

My K9s
Marvel was a Shetland Sheepdog. He liked to nip ankles and run after cars (at the time we didn't know those were natural herding dog behaviors). He'd come in the car to pick me up from my horseback riding lessons, doing well not to bark at the XXL dogs people were riding, and interrogating me with sniffs when I came back from long days of volunteering at a 4H, therapeutic farm program. He even helped me start my first dog walking 'business' when I was 13. He was so special to grow up with. He taught me about love and loss, trust and loyalty, and like most Marvel Superheroes, he showed me bravery and strength.

Shadow came into my life when I was 16. Flipping through the Dog Breed Encyclopedia, I came across the Flat-Coated Retriever, the Peter Pan of dogs. I decided to do some research on the breed and potential AKC registered breeders nearby. Two months later, I was meeting a litter of little black beans. He's a big black bean now, but he's as much a puppy today as the day I brought him home. He is my shadow. He was by my side through high school, college —he lived with me on campus, even participated in some public speeches and research projects— my first jobs. He gave me the confidence to get where I am now, the confidence to share my knowledge and love for dogs with others.

My Education
I received my associates in human psychology, another subject I am passionate about. That's when I realized my interest lies more in animal behavior and the interaction between animals and humans, rather than humans alone. Having experienced it first hand, I was set on learning more about how canines and humans emotionally help each other; especially the emotional benefits dogs have on children.
I went on to receive my Bachelors of Science in Animal Behavioral Sciences at Franklin & Marshall College. My studies focused on the 'whys?' and "whats?" of animal behavior. I had the experience of training Capuchin monkeys, and conducting observational Canine studies, where I not only learned about training methods and observational skills, but had the opportunity to put my knowledge into practice.
Since then, I have specialized in canine behavior, with an emphasis on understanding the human and the dog. I have worked with dogs hands-on in multiple professional settings over the last 4 years, learning and sharing pivotal aspects of dog care, communication, and positive training.

I strive to ignite the same enthusiasm I have to each dog-human team I work with, child or adult, whether that's during personalized training sessions, Drop-in Visits, or Dog-sitting gigs.
